I am so glad to do my first blob site!!!!! Look out Corps.

Okay Al, I'm joining Jefferson and Adams and we are going fight it out to agreement. But you better be able to support your position with facts or experience.

It seems to me that boundaries are very important in this context. This is similar to the criteria that define ASSERTIVENESS when contrasted with the extremes of AGGRESSION and PASSIVITY. When one engages in ASSERTIVE behavior, one protects one's own space while honoring the individual space of the other with whom one is in relationship. So, when behaving ASSERTIVELY, I may express my own needs, wishes, desires, etc. up to that boundary that defines what is your personal space. Simultaneously, I honor your needs, wishes, desires, etc. up to the boundary defining my personal space. In this way, we are each free to express ourselves up to the point where we begin to encroach upon the other. Of course, in the real world, where that line is often must be negotiated. However, if the line is defined by an objective measure such as this rather than by who has more power, the outcome is much more likely to be sustainable.

Some recent publications address making American Democracy stronger: Bill Bradley and Al Gore. Each book list what individuals can do to improve our country's balance among individual responsibility and concern for the common good.
